Dr. Steve Burnell is CEO of Minderoo Foundation’s Collaborate Against Cancer Initiative which integrates the current Eliminate Cancer and Universal Cancer Databank projects. He is also doing double duty at the moment as he leads the Foundation's significant COVID-19 response. Steve has a passion for the intersection of technology and healthcare and is particularly motivated to improve the way data is used for the benefit of patients, researchers and health systems. He was most recently at the Roche Group, the world’s largest biotech, where he has run global businesses in diagnostics and most recently established a new information solutions and real world data business focused on quality of care improvements and clinical decision support in oncology. Steve’s 30+ years experience in research and business spans fisheries science, marine ecology and MPAs, natural history documentary production, strategy consulting, healthcare and precision medicine. He holds a B.Sc. with honors in Biology and a Ph.D. in Population Biology from the University of Sydney, Australia.  Steve and his family relocated to Perth from the San Francisco Bay area in late 2019.
