Overview

In 2014, VCS was contracted to deliver a fully outsourced registry solution to support the operations of the cervical screening program for the SA government. The project included establishment of operational and ICT infrastructure, and the seamless transition of service delivery.

Challenge

The SA screening program was supported by an outdated legacy information system that resulted in issues including: a lack of system reliability and availability; labour intensive processes that lead to data gaps and errors; fragmented follow up processes; and the inability of the system to support comprehensive reporting and safety monitoring.

Solution

As a health program service integrator, VCS implemented the necessary infrastructure, systems and resourcing to successfully transition the services from the SA government to VCS. The project included responsibility for data migration and cleansing; administering a comprehensive reminder and follow‐up program for each SA woman who has her cervical screening test results recorded with the Register; and supporting laboratories, practitioners and the program. Within 6 months, the project was delivered on‐time and within budget, with systems and services seamlessly transitioned enhancing the service quality to deliver better health outcomes.
